A Hopeful Promise for Families After the Loss of a Sibling During Pregnancy
About the Book
When a flower seed is planted, it takes just the right amount of food, water, and sunshine to grow. Sometimes—even though we do everything right—the seed doesn’t always bloom into a flower the way we hope or expect it to.
Through poetic language and whimsical illustrations, Still Blooming is a children’s book that tells an engaging story of how many things have to go exactly right for a flower to bloom; depicting a simple analogy of what it takes for every baby to be born. When faced with the heartbreak of losing a baby during pregnancy, this book creates a tender space for families to process the emotions that may arise from such a profound loss.
Still Blooming ends with a hopeful promise: even if we don’t get to see the seed we planted bloom into a flower here on Earth, we can be assured that it is safe and happy thanks to the care of a loving Gardener. A gentle and interactive prompt at the end of the book equips parents to start a conversation with their living children about siblings in Heaven, either for the first time, or as a loving reminder.
Author Chelsey Schnell is a mom to four children on Earth, and two in Heaven. She is the Founder of Evermore Blooms, a nonprofit organization that cares for mothers who’ve experienced miscarriage.
